Fealty Vow

I have included my Knight's vow here as a comparison. When I became a squire of Duke Dag, I wrote this to help me better organize my thought on what I wanted to do as I start on this particular path. Please feel free to use some, all or none of it if it is useful to you.

| Pan Zygmunt, having seen in you the qualities
that are valued by our Society, and the potential to contribute greatly to
the Society and Kingdom, I have asked you to become my squire.
As my squire, I require you to stand at my back and aid in the defense of my life and my property. To support my causes when they are just and counsel me when they are not. To defend your Kingdom when in need, and to give weight to my advice and instructions. As a member of my House, you will obey my commands on the field, honor my lady as you would your own, and when I require service of you, that you put those needs before your own. For my part, I promise to defend your life and property, and to support you in just causes. I will not give you into danger without need, nor lead you to dishonor by action or command. I promise to teach you what I know of the Society and its manners, and strive to provide a worthy example. To guide you to whatever honorable path you may choose and aid you along that path however I may. With these things in mind, is it still your wish to become my squire? Would you add oaths of your own, so these assembled may know your true heart? Receive from me these symbols: Wear this chain, as a sign of your fealty, and of our respect for the ideals of Chivalry that I profess. Wear also this belt, as a sign to others of your loyalty and responsibilities, and as a reminder to me of my obligations to you. Drink this wine to the dregs and let it symbolize our commitment to House Grammorgin and to each other. Let it be known and spread the word that I hold this man in high
esteem. |
His Grace, Dux Meditarranea Dag Thorgrimsson, has asked that
I swear fealty and enter service to him and his house as a squire. To
accept the chain of a squire is to set your feet upon the demanding path
of the code of Chivalry. This is my attempt to interpret what this code
means to me in ourSociety.
The chain of this code is forged of many links – Prowess, Courage,
Honesty, Loyalty, Generosity, Faith, Courtesy, Franchise and Fortitude. Of
these links, Franchise and Humility are so sublime that they escape
accurate definition. My hope is that my actions speak for me in these
qualities. To the extent that the remaining qualities can be described,

Finally, the one of the guiding principles of my life: "He who wishes to be a leader of all must first be a servant of all."
